The Rosscraft line of Campbell Bone Calipers are named after the late Mr. Robert Campbell, the inventor of the double siding branch principle, an exclusive Rosscraft design feature. The Rosscraft caliper may be the only caliper manufactured in the world that has long branches that do not bind under pressure at the tips.

Campbell 20 torso breadths such as acromial, transverse chest, biiliocristal, etc. are obtained with straight branches. AP Chest, and some head measurements are made using the AP Extension or Branch Pointers with olive tips.

These are exactly 10 cm each (and can be calibrated using the adjustable screw and lock nut). Thus the Bone Calipers reading from AP branch tips will be 20 cm too large (easily corrected by subtracting 20 cm constant in the data entry program or spread sheet).

Verniers Scales that Permit Reading to the Nearest 0.01 cm

• The red arrow is pointing to the reading of 9.62 cm (see image tab)
• Read to lowest whole mm, 9.6 cm at 0 indicator
• Appreciate that the true distance is 9.60, 9.61, 9.62 , 9.68, 9.69 cm
• To obtain the second digit, find any increment on the vernier that lines up with any increment of the main scale.
• E.g. 2 lines up with 10 increment on the upper scale, the second digit is 2, the reading is 9.62 cm as shown.
• In practice, one estimates and then checks to see the alignment
• One can disregard the vernier scale, or patch over the increments and read the 0 indicator to the nearest 0.1 cm . As in the illustration, 9.6 cm
