Campbell 10 Small Bone Caliper

The Rosscraft line of Campbell Bone Calipers are named after the late Mr. Robert Campbell, the inventor of the double siding branch principle, an exclusive Rosscraft design feature. Campbell 10 small bone caliper, 18 cm, based on the sliding branch principle, has pressure plates 10 mm diameter that provide areas that encompasses the epicondyles.

The Campbell 20's (54 cm) and Campbell 10's (18 cm) have vernier scales that permit reading to the nearest 0.01 cm. Reading to the closest 0.1 cm is the normal practice and the vernier scale is ignored unless there is some doubt as to rounding up or down. Those unfamiliar with the use of a vernier scale can consult engineering textbooks.

Appreciate that the true distance is 9.60, 9.61, 9.62 , 9.68, 9.69 cm
To obtain the second digit, find any increment on the vernier that lines up with any increment of the main scale.
E.g. 2 lines up with 10 increment on the upper scale, the second digit is 2, the reading is 9.62 cm as shown.
In practice, one estimates and then checks to see the alignment
One can disregard the vernier scale, or patch over the increments and read the 0 indicator to the nearest 0.1 cm . As in the illustration, 9.6 cm
