If your dog poops at the Village of Abacoa in Jupiter, Florida, be prepared to pay a hefty fine, even when no one is around to see the 'poop tort.' The community has voted up a policy where all community dogs will have their DNA on file. Any dog poop found in common areas unattended will be sampled, DNA tested, and the dog owners fined.
"Community managers say they have no choice. Dogs are defecating and urinating in elevators, in stairwells, on carpets and in the lobby, as well as common areas outside. The condo association is spending $10,000 to $12,000 a year replacing and cleaning," said Matthew Brickman, president of the Village of Abacoa Condominium Association.
Testing doggie DNA requires some simple medical equipment and supplies. Swabsticks are used to take a DNA sample from every dog's mouth in the community. From these samples, an identity record of every dog in the community can be cataloged. If there is a canine bowel movement where it shouldn't be, forensic applicators will be used to collect and send the offending sample to a lab. What happens next?

Medical face masks have been an iconic symbol of the medical profession for hundreds of years. The first medical faces masks were not the surgical supplies doctors and nurses use today for aseptic surgical procedures, but were rather frightening, almost supernatural-looking Plague Doctor masks. These Plague Doctor masks were worn by the brave individuals who gathered bodies of the victims of Black Death epidemics, that spread across Europe in the Middle Ages, to protect them from catching the disease.
The idea behind those medical face masks was not based in any real scientific research, but the masks worked remarkably well. By creating a seal around the face of the person coming in contact with disease, they were less likely to inhale the bacteria that caused the plague.
Today medical face masks provide protection against the spread of infection, based on the germ theory of disease. These masks are soft, comfortable, and disposable. QuickMedical, your online medical supply store, has face masks ideal for healthcare providers, consumers who are looking for personal protection and much more.

QuickMedical's CEO Scott Hanna is in China, meeting with potential vendors, customers, and manufacturers. While in China, Scott had the opportunity to visit the famous Great Wall. Scott writes, "...looking at pictures of the Wall in a book doesn't completely express its grandness. I took a tram to the top of the mountain and saw just a piece. I couldn't believe my eyes. I had no idea it was nested on top of mountains and zigzagged all over the countryside."

A relatively new innovation in the world of medical equipment is the home cholesterol monitor. Rates of heart disease have increased over the 20th century. Scientists have generally accepted the lipid hypothesis of heart disease, which has made accurate tracking of cholesterol levels important.
Home cholesterol monitors, such as the CardioChek monitor (which also has a professional model), work on the principle of photometry. Photometry is used by astronomers to discover the elements and compounds that make up stars and planets. It is used in other medical equipment, such as pulse oximeters, too. By judging the color value, absorption, and emission of light, a variety of assumptions can be made about the substances the light is being passed through. With the help of a computer, these assumptions can be translated into useful information.
Knowing your cholesterol is a key part of taking charge of your cardiovascular health. The CardioChek for Home Use Self-Cholesterol Monitor gives you the ability to determine your cholesterol; any time, any place, with a small drop of blood from a fingerstick. Here's how it works:

For people at a higher risk of losing central vision as they age, eating certain dietary nutrients could help protect their eyes and avoid the use of health products for the visually impaired. Macular degeneration vision loss is caused by erosion of the retina. A new study shows patients who ate higher levels of zinc, antioxidants or omega-3 fatty acids cut their risk of developing the disease by as much as a third, compared with those who ate lower levels of the nutrients.
In the United States, the condition occurs in more than six out of every 100 adults over age 40 and although patients can be treated with medications and surgery, none of these cures the disease. Low vision requires a variety of medical devices to assist in daily living.

Students entering medical school at Brown University's Alpert School of Medicine are on summer break right now, relaxing after the stress of applying and getting accepted into medical school. Soon their summer break will end, and the first year medical students will begin their studies. The students at Alpert and at most medical schools are required to purchase some of their own medical equipment and medical supplies. This list is often provided online to students. QuickMedical has every product on the Alpert list. For the full list of med school equipment and a few other medical supplies medical students might need, click ahead.
