QuickMedical Question Guy:
I noticed on your web site, your division QuickMedical GS is a disabled vet small business. What does that mean? I understand President Obama signed a bill requiring vet companies to get certified. I was just wondering if you got certification, yet?
Yours Truly,
Mr. Proud to be a Vet
Thanks for your service, Mr. Vet. It's true QuickMedical GS is a service disabled veteran-owned, small business. We have been for a while. In October 2010, President Obama signed the Veterans Benefits Act. Section 104 of this law expands VA's requirement to verify business status as owned and operated by Veterans, service-disabled Veterans or eligible surviving spouses. The law is intended to protect our Veterans, their families and survivors who have Veteran-owned small businesses (VOSB). Effective October 13, 2010, no new small business applicant may appear in the VIP database unless it has been verified as owned and controlled by a Veteran or service-disabled Veteran.

In answer to your question, Government Sales director Tom Smith says, "It only took 90 days but we have been verified by the VetBiz Registry." We can proudly display the "Verified" logo as a Veteran Owned Small Business, and appear in the database!
If you purchase medical equipment and supplies for the government or a government agency, QuickMedical GS is your online source.

If you read the blog often, you might remember QuickMedical is a Veteran Owned Small Business and government sales is an important part of QuickMedical. Today in the United States, we celebrate Veterans Day. Throughout the world, November 11th is known as Armistice Day. In 1918, World War I officially ended on November 11th and Woodrow Wilson subsequently proclaimed it a holiday for world peace.
Unfortunately for President Wilson, world peace was a fleeting dream, the world was at war a few years later.
In 1954 President Dwight Eisenhower changed Armistice Day into Veterans Day, recognizing all American veterans, from all wars. It has remained a Federal holiday since.
QuickMedical is a veteran owned business and our government sales division serves the veteran hospitals and military communities. Consequently today, we pause a moment to say thank you to the men and women who have served our country, in war and in peace. We might not be here without you.

October has brought us some unexpectedly nice weather. Last week we were lucky enough to enjoy a sunny, clear day in the 60s during our annual Government Sales BBQ . CEO Scott (right) and Government Sales Director Tom(left) cooked up some tasty steak and bratwurst, along with some root beer and real beer to quench our thirst, from our favorite local brewery--Snoqualmie Brewery. The weather was so fantastic we couldn't help but haul the chairs outside and sit on the patio of our parking lot. Good times! Although Welch Allyn is the well-known brand name in wall-mounted diagnostics, the Riester Ri-Former Diagnostic Station, surpasses their wall transformer set on several different fronts.
Both Riester and Welch-Allyn manufacture durable products, but Riester offers a two-year warranty, instead of the Welch-Allyn one year. The Riester Ophthalmoscope has almost double the amount of corrective lenses and more apertures and filters. The Riester Ri-Former Diagnostic Station also offers one environmentally friendly, centralized electrical power source for convenience, eliminating the need for conventional or rechargeable batteries. This way the doctor can simply enter an exam room without having to worry about carrying an otoscope or ophthalmoscope with and never has to worry about the batteries going dead. The Riester station is extendable as well, to both the left or the right of the main station, while Welch-Allyn's station can only extend right. While the Welch-Allyn can be extended with only 3 modules, the Riester ri-Former is extendable to 5 (see below).

Who isn't, at least a little bit stressed when going to the doctor?
Whether you're running late, or you hit traffic or the actual appointment stresses you out, I think it's safe to say most people's blood pressure is higher than usual when visiting the doctor. In fact, this is such a common occurrence that the medical field has actually created a term for it; White Coat Syndrome. According to Wikipedia, "White coat syndrome is a phenomenon in which patients exhibit elevated blood pressure in a clinical setting but not in other settings. It is believed that this is due to the anxiety some people experience during a clinic visit."
I know exactly what they mean by White Coat Syndrome. Sometimes I get anxious when I'm sitting there in that little exam room, and the nurse or the doctor walks in and I don't know what they're going to say or what they're going to want me to do. Then soon enough, I'm sitting there getting my blood pressure taken, just me, the nurse and our silence. As she listens the only thing I can hear is my heart beating out of my chest, a million miles an hour.
Luckily for me (and millions of other people), a doctor in Canada was tired of seeing his patients go through this and in turn developed a more patient friendly and clinic friendly way of checking someone's blood pressure. The doctor developed the BpTRU line of blood pressure monitors that are automatic, non invasive and are not only easy to use, but also accurate enough for clinical use.

Tom Smith just couldn't get enough of the convention-style atmosphere. After our own Open House, he headed down to San Antonio for the Military Healthcare Convention and Conference in San Antonio. Tom saw a couple familiar faces from the QuickMedical Open House, including Brewer representatives, and our buddies from Surgimark.
Tom even shot this Qtube video on a brand new SR Scale! This scale is available under government contract. Check it out after the click!

While Welch Allyn is the well-known brand name in wall-mounted diagnostics, Riester gives the well known brand a stiff challenge. Welch-Allyn devices are top of the line; there is no question about their quality and craftsmanship. But, the less well-known Riester is right alongside them, and surpasses their wall transformer set with their modular diagnostic station, on several different fronts.

Government Sales Director Tom Smith is traveling abroad this month. Here are some recent pictures, and by recent I mean, right now! Isn't the Internet amazing?
Here, Tom is in London, on the Wellington Arch.
