It's Occupational Therapy Month so with the help of the American Occupational Therapy Association, this month on the blog, we at QuickMedical are going to focus on some helpful hints for getting through the work day in one piece. This week, we're going to focus specifically on maintaining health in the work place.
Sit at a desk typing all day? Many of us do and with a keyboard job comes quite a few problems, such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Do you have pain or a burning sensation, numbness, or tingling in your wrist, hand or fingers? You might not be typing and sitting in an ergonomic way. Consulting with an occupational therapist might be a great idea. They can evaluate if you are sitting with correct posture, holding your hands properly when you type, and taking appropriate breaks to stretch and rest.
Work with heavy items? Are you using proper lifting techniques? If you experience lower back pain, or joint and tendon soreness often, you might want to evaluate how you are moving throughout the day. Constant lower back pain, even after rest, might also be a sign of high stress. A consultation with an occupational therapist might be a great idea.
In an increasingly mechanized, technical, and fast-paced world, where our occupations outpace our biological, and therefore somewhat natural limitations, it is more important than ever to be careful to safeguard our health in the workplace.
Next time we'll look at some tips for keeping your kids healthy at school. $113.95
