Exercise and Aging, Part 1

Having been a personal trainer for the past 20 years I've had the pleasure of working with a diverse range of people. One of the greatest satisfactions I get from my job is watching people learn to use and trust their bodies.

A woman in her early 60s came to see me not that long ago. She was moving out of the country and had concerns about her sense of balance and mobility. Even walking was turning into a perilous activity, and she didn't want her physical condition to impact the quality of her new life.

Exercise and AgingWe set to work doing exercises to help her regain strength in her legs and her sense of balance. By the time she left two months later she was moving easily and with confidence, thinking about maybe even riding a bicycle in her new home country.

Aging does cause deterioration of the body and mind. This is a fate we cannot escape. How we deal with it and think about it is another story.
