Mindful Exercise, Part 2

Learning new things is one way to keep the brain engaged. The mind is stimulated and brain pathways that are not used in your ordinary day-to-day routine are opened up.

Exercise your BrainIt doesn’t even have to be as involved as taking a class or doing something completely foreign to you. The options of taking a class or doing something you’ve never done before are good ones, but even small things in your everyday life can be turned into brain stimulating challenges:

  • Try using eating utensils with your non-dominant hand
  • Take a new route to work
  • Use the hand you normally don’t use with your computer mouse
  • Pick a word you don’t know out of the dictionary and memorize it’s meaning and spelling

Always thought crossword puzzles were a waste of time? Think again. Activities like crossword puzzles and scrabble are great ways to keep your brain in shape. They can get you to think in ways that may be out of the norm from what you normally ponder.
