The ndd EasyOne Frontline Spirometer is a high quality spirometer that minimizes the need for maintenance due to its unique ultrasound technology. The ndd EasyOne Frontline Spirometer does not need calibration and will remain consistently accurate for years. The ndd EasyOne Frontline Spirometer has an easy to read numerical display and results are displayed instantly along with an interpretation on how well the patient is performing the test, making it perfect for health fairs and first time users. The Easyone Frontline also has a memory that can hold up to 700 subjects, displaying and storing only the best trial and curve, with the records staying intact until the memory is at capacity (the first reading in, is the first reading out), even when the batteries die. The Easyone Spirometer is used to perform pre and post medication Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) tests and is the first spirometer to meet the NLHEP (National Lung Health Education Program) criteria for office spirometry testing.

The EasyOne Spirometer is powered by 2 AA batteries (included) and the batteries last for approximately 400 tests. The ndd Easy One Frontline Spirometer does not require any major cleaning and single patient disposable spirettes are available for contamination control. The spirette breathing tube assures perfectly hygienic conditions for every patient at low cost even if the spirometer is frequently used. The Spirette is a tube, filter and mouth piece all-in-one, designed for all ages and mouth shapes, that ensures a tight seal around the lips. Also available is a cradle or base station used for standby positioning and to communicate directly with the printer and computer software. The printer and the EasyWare computer software are also available as another way of recording results. See our optional e-kit, produced by University of Washington, for help with the fundamentals of performing spirometry - See ACCESSORIES tab.

  • Q: Why does EasyOne Spirometer need no calibration?

The following two main characteristics make the EasyOne Spriometer instrument calibration free: The EasyOne spirometer determines flow by measuring the flight time of ultrasonic pulses. The time measurement is performed digitally using a precision quartz clock. The transducers that are used for this time measurement are mounted outside of the flow tube. Changing the flow tube does not change the characteristics of the transducers. In addition, the ultrasonic flow measurement is inherently independent of temperature, humidity, pressure, and gas composition. While the EasyOne does not require calibration, it is important to note that the American Thoracic Society, NIOSH/OSHA, and others recommend that the accuracy of the spirometer be verified on a regular basis. This verification is easily done using the ndd 3-liter syringe.

  • Q: Do I need to use a filter with the EasyOne Spirometer?

Most spirometers use some sort of flow sensor that is in direct contact with the exhaled breath. Filters are used to reduce the contamination of this sensor. The EasyOne spirometer, on the other hand, measures the flow in a completely open tube using ultrasonic transit times. Cross-contamination can be completely avoided by changing the flow tube (the Spirette) between patients.

  • Q: How accurately does the EasyOne measure in low flow situations, such as when testing children?

There is no problem using the EasyOne spirometer for children: The ultrasonic flow measurement is very sensitive at low flows (flow resolution is below 10 ml/s) and the flow tube exhibits an extremely low flow resistance.

  • Q: Is the spirette suitable for children?

The spirette flow tube's special ergonomical design easily accommodates a child's lips and teeth. The flow tube can be used for both adults and children down to the age of five years.

  • Q: Can the predicted normals be changed?

Several predicted normal values can be selected from the Setup menu. An overview of the predicted normals is available on the EasyOne Documentation page. We appreciate your feedback if important predicted normal values are missing.

  • Q: What is the internal memory size of the EasyOne?

EasyOne automatically stores more than 700 test sessions (patient data, test results, and curves). These measurements can be selected and viewed at any time. They can also be printed individually or in ranges upon demand. Using the PC software EasyWare the measurements can be downloaded to a PC database.

  • Q: Which printers work with EasyOne Spirometers?

A wide range of black & white and color printers from the manufacturers Canon, Epson, and HP is supported. Because printer models change frequently we are not always able to provide a complete list of compatible printer models. The most current list is available on our EasyOne Documentation page. However, if your printer is not listed you may contact ndd for guidance. The printer type can be chosen from the Setup menu.

  • Q: Why is EasyOne not equipped with rechargeable batteries?

The power consumption of EasyOne is very low. With two AA alkaline batteries approximately 400 measurements can be executed. Rechargeable batteries would make the device less reliable and more expensive.

  • Q: Are other spirometers cheaper to operate?

For the following reasons EasyOne has low operating costs: a) Due to its operational principle EasyOne does not require re-calibration. b) There is no need to buy a calibration syringe, unless you want to verify accuracy. c) You do not need to buy filters. d) The flow sensor is robust by design. e) No expensive and sensitive parts can be contaminated. f) There is no maintenance required.

  • Q: Why does the EasyOne Spirometer not have an integrated printer?

We chose to use commercially available letter size / A4 format black & white or color printers. With these low cost printers you get an easy to read one or two-page report that will archive indefinitely. This is in contrast to small thermo "strip"-printers where the report is difficult to file, and is likely to fade, and even disappear, during long-term storage.

  • Q: Can masks be used with EasyOne?

Yes you can use masks. There are 2 possibilities: A) commonly available masks with 22mm joint flange; cut the mouth piece part of the spirette as shown and insert the modified spirette. B) Laerdal silicone masks allow the use w/o any modification of the spirette. Fold the mouthpiece part of the spirette and insert the spirette (mouthpiece first from the front) through the mask opening. This can be important whenever you need to use unmodified original parts (Studies etc.).

  • Q: Can I use filters with EasyOne?

You do not need to. EasyOne uses the hygienic and easy to use spirette for safe, maintenance and calibration free spirometry. Should for any reason a filter be needed the spirette adapter art.# 100-2789 can be used in conjunction with spirette M 2050-7.
