The Olympic Bili-Meter has long been recognized as the standard of accuracy for measuring irradiance during neonatal phototherapy - used for almost 20 years in thousands of nurseries worldwide. Now the new Model 22 Bili-Meter offers the same trusted accuracy along with several improved features, including memory. When using previous model Bili-Meters, memorizing the final reading before releasing the button and shutting the instrument off was necessary. With the new Model 22 Bili-Meter, however, when you release the button, your final reading remains locked on the display for 30 seconds. This gives you time to put the Bili-Meter down and chart your reading without having to memorize the results. Your job is made easier and faster, and the possibility of memory error is eliminated. To take a new (or repeat) reading, simply press and hold the button and the previous memory is erased.
The key to the Olympic Bili-Meter's accuracy is the precision optical system. The sensor has a dome diffuser to minimize angular sensitivity. Behind the diffuser a specially designed dichroic filter transmits only the narrow wavelengths of blue light that principally affect bilirubin. Another filter blocks the infrared, and a sensitive, blue-enhanced diode detects radiation. To this laboratory quality optical system, the new Model 22 Bili-Meter has now added microprocessor electronics for improved linearity and reliability and memory.
The Model 22 Bili-Meter is available with either of two sensors. Both sensors measure in standard units of microwatts per square centimeter per nanometer - range 0.1 to 150.0 - and the same spectral region of 425-475 nanometers.
Type B-22 Sensor (shown to the left) - Used for measuring all regular phototherapy lights including fluorescent, halogen and even sunlight. However, the B-22 Sensor should not be used with fiberoptic phototherapy pads.
Type F-22 Sensor (shown to the right) - Designed specifically to measure irradiance of fiberoptic phototherapy pads (only). Measures irradiance over large area (45.5 square centimeters) directly at surface of pad. Eliminates ambient light error.
