Gauze dressings dry out the wound surface and contribute to scab formation, while slowing the wound healing process. Moisture retentive dressings however, like Hydrocolloid Dressings, do not dry out the wound surface, instead creating a moist, low oxygen environment to facilitate the healing process. Hydrocolloid Dressings provide a secure seal over the wound and create a barrier to external contaminants and bacteria, reducing the risk of infection.
Wound Debridement is when dead, damaged or infected tissue is removed to improve and expediate the healing process. Autolytic Debridement performed with moisture-retentive dressings, such as Hydrocolloid Dressings, is less damaging to the wound and is associated with more rapid healing.
Moisture retentive dressings create a physical barrier to external contaminants and bacteria, making this ideal for wound treatment in hospitals, long term care facilities and geriatric care. Hydrocolloid Dressings have been shown to be particularly effective in providing a functional barrier when compared to other types of dressings.
For deeper, full thickness wounds the development of a healthy granulation base is essential for healing to take place. Modern moisture retentive dressings, like Hydrocolloid Dressings, create the optimal wound environment that has been shown to facilitate new granulation tissue development.
Hydorcolloid Dressings, a type of moisture retentive dressing, helps facilitate wound healing by protecting the wound from bacteria and conataminants with a barrier. Hydrocolloid Dressings faciliated healing by keeping the wound moist and promoting debridement and new tissue growth.
