Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, accounting for 1 in every 4 deaths in the United States a year. With two million new people starting the blood thinner Coumadin (a warfarin drug) a year, to prevent clots associated with heart attack as well as stroke, the need for a way to regulate dose has never been in more demand. Enter the next development in PT/INR Monitoring: Coag-Sense.

In order to accurately adjust a warfarin-type oral anticoagulant, the periodic measurement of the blood clotting time with a Prothrombin Time (PT) test is recommended. The Coag-Sense Direct Clot Detection System measures this ProTime in seconds and International Normalized Ratio (INR). The PT/INR Monitoring System is an in vitro diagnostic device that provides accurate results in less than one minute using a portable meter that requires only a small sample size of blood (10 ul minimum) for easy testing.

The stable, tabletop meter holds memory of the past 100 tests and requires no calibration chip or code input when inserting the one-time use test strips. The single-use strip can be stored at room temperature. Included with every Test Strip Kit are two High and two Low Control Strips, to be used with each new lot of test strips. The Coagulation Monitoring process is CLIA-waived, ensuring the highest possible medical quality control.

To test, simply place the disposable strip into the meter. After the meter warms the test strip to the optimal operating temperature, a two minute timer will begin, during which time the patient must prick their finger with a lancet. Using the minipipette, retrieve at least 10 ul of blood and transfer it to the waiting strip within the meter. The strip contains a tiny wheel with spokes that pull the sample into the reaction well allowing the meter to determine the clotting time, which is done as the clot interrupts a beam of light. Sample quantities of required materials, such as lancets, are included with each kit. See accessories below for additional supply quantities.

The Self Testing System is intended to be used by a qualified caregiver or a patient that has been provided proper instruction by their healthcare provider. Requiring a prescription, the patient should used the PT/INR Home Test Kit to collect data which the patient or caregiver would then provide to their physician for interpretation. This allows the medical professional to adjust the blood thinner dose to optimize the efficacy of the warfarin-type drug. The meter is powered by 4-AA batteries or by the optional AC Adapter, available for purchase in the ACCESSORIES tab. Proudly made in the USA.
